Delta Squad After Action Report
The entirety of the US Army 60th Infantry Regiment were grouped up at the Tan Son Nhut Airbase, at least before they were divided between helicopters. Delta Squad was accompanied by Charlie Squad and the 2nd Platoon HQ in the second helicopter, which decided to hover near Nha Be Village while awaiting further orders. Upon being notified that another helicopter had been shot down from the skies, the plan changed on the spot and we flew south towards REORG Donut, hoping for better luck for us. The new plan was to make a huge line, shoot the enemy Vietnamese and then regroup to go to the next REORG point, simple, practical. However, that plan never came to fruition because our helicopter also turned into a victim. After crawling out of the destroyed helicopter and treating myself, I knew that time was of the essence if I were to ensure that the troops in the crash were to make it out alive.

There were survivors from all three groups trying to save themselves from the flames. From 2nd Platoon HQ, the ones alive were Pvt. Usagi and Lt. Yotza. From Charlie, the ones that made it out were Pvt. Elias, Pvt. Marcel, as for my squad only Cpl. Uni_Play, Pvt. Tole, Pvt. Bugs Bunny and myself made it out. Within those crucial moments, it was a race against time for me and Pvt. Usagi while we tried to save as many of the survivors of the crash as we could, and thanks to our efforts the fire didn’t take any lives. After getting everyone ready, we moved east to get away from the crash site and eventually reached the starting position for the US Navy, where the Medvac arrived and allowed us to use their helicopter to reposition. Our squad, alongside Charlie and 2nd Platoon, flew without problems while once again receiving medical treatment from Usagi and myself, then landed near Ly Nhon, providing 360 security until the helicopter left the area.
Lt. Yotza led the charge towards the southeast, in a column with Cpl. Uni_Play on the front while I was ordered to move to the back. There was gunfire to our East so I had to keep extra attention just in case any of our soldiers happened to catch a bullet, but luckily it didn’t happen and we continued pushing Southeast. Arriving at a possible ambush position right under Xom Ca Di, once again keeping our eyes peeled in all directions, we then decided to push northeast, towards a set of buildings on Xom Ca Di in order to regroup with the rest of our men. That’s when we finally managed to reunite with the rest of Delta Squad and a few other soldiers, however things weren’t quiet for long as the next disaster crashed right next to us.

Thanks to the quick thinking of the medics and combat capable soldiers, losses were minimal and not many supplies were used. Upon making sure everyone was healthy enough and ready to move, we walked back southwest. We found a few unconscious soldiers and some wounded, but they were still able to move. Once again, we had our hands full simply trying to keep ourselves alive in enemy territory. They got some effective treatment from the nearby medics before all of us moved back northeast to get away from the gunfire, where there was a helicopter waiting to pick us up. We flew mostly north, landing north from Ap Binh Hoa, near another possible ambush point.
Now on foot, Delta squad, once again alongside Charlie squad, formed a line and walked north towards our next objective, unsure of what awaited us given the chaotic nature of the operation up to that point. Charlie eventually walked west to clear a village while our squad continued pushing north, where we found enemy contacts in the distance and exchanged some bullets. I got shot in the chest immediately but managed to save myself, however my medical work wasn’t done yet as I saw Sgt. Heinrich and Pvt. RasaDeDam getting shot as well, so I rushed to stabilize them. After making sure they would survive and were combat capable once again, they went back to engaging the contacts. Cpl. Uni_Play was sent ahead alongside a few riflemen to take over a position past the river. Once they cleared the area well enough, the rest of the squad moved up to support them.
Soon after we regrouped with Charlie squad on a short hill nearby, where we also met with some stragglers from 2nd Platoon HQ, like Pvt. Usagi and Pvt. Louis_Bulgarov, who watched our backs while we focused on the front. Pvt. Usagi even managed to catch some hidden enemies behind us which got properly commended by her platoon. Upon dealing with what we thought was the rest of the enemy forces in that area, resupply was requested and we eventually saw another helicopter, but that’s when the third unfortunate incident happened right in front of us.

Upon searching around and inside, unfortunately no supplies or survivors were found in what was left of our supposed resupply, so we continued our path northwest with guns that were drier than a desert. We met a few soldiers from Charlie Squad who happened to be lost and looking for the rest of their squad, so we gave them directions and continued further north where we happened to find another helicopter, this time with the resupply we had requested some time ago. After that things were looking up again, we continued watching all directions in the area so the helicopter could leave without any trouble and held position until our ride arrived.
Our flight landed on the east side of Saigon Port, also known as the destination of the cargo ship. Cpl. Uni_Play took the riflemen to clear out a few bunkers nearby while the rest of the squad kept watch, mainly North. Some enemy contact was found west, and two of our soldiers went down but I managed to catch up and save them in time. But eventually, the operation ended with not every cargo ship making it.
