Charlie Squad After Action Report

The objective of this operation was to retrieve civilians from enemy territory while eliminating all enemy contacts on sight. Once we left FOB Michigan, we flew along the Pech River, over the Kunar Cemetery, landing further north, closer to Nagalam, our first destination. The first step of the plan was to locate the weapons cache, so we would need to hard clear every single building in that area. We didn’t have time for questions before we ran to our vehicle and drove off after setting up our radios.

Unfortunately for us, some enemy contacts made themselves known by shooting our vehicles on the way there, so we were forced to disembark and take cover behind a wall and slowly make space to shoot them back, while Cpl. Szopix led half of charlie squad east to get a different angle. SFC. Bobi from Alpha squad ended up getting shot further ahead and ran back to the wall I was taking cover at for treatment, so I ended up quickly bandaging his bleeding head while PFC. YourDoctor covered us with suppressive fire.

Pvt. Hunter, Alpha squad’s medic, also needed some quick healing before we each ran back to our vehicles and loaded back up to resume our push towards Nagalam. But once again, the enemy got a surprise attack on our gunner, and he got shot down on top of our vehicle. I tried to quickly stabilize his vitals, hoping the inside of the vehicle would be safe enough for the time being. However, that didn’t prove to be the case as some shots went through the window and managed to hit me, knocking me unconscious. 2nd Lt. RasaDeDam, our squad leader, also went down during that encounter, which left only PFC. YourDoctor alive to communicate what happened to the rest of Charlie through the radio.

After getting back in the fight, I quickly went prone due to heavy enemy fire in my direction. Rct. Snieg95 was next to me and asked for some quick medical treatment while he would use the cover to shoot back at them. However, while I was in the middle of healing his left leg, one of the bullets hit him in the head, and he was knocked unconscious immediately. I still managed to save him before the situation got worse. We got stuck defending our position for what felt like hours, but thanks to their gun expertise and me and Pvt. Hunter making sure to assist anyone who got injured, we managed to survive and continue our mission with minimal casualties.

Now moving south, my squad divided ourselves each on one side of the street, and that’s when I saw PFC. YourDoctor get shot down behind cover. After waiting for a short while for the shots to die down while 2nd Lt. RasaDeDam went after the enemy contact, I made a mistake in judgment and assumed the area in which my AT got shot was now safe. So when I moved there and crouched behind cover to start to treat him, I also got shot unconscious. Luckily, the shot barely hit me, so I was able to wake up without any exterior assistance and proceeded to run Northeast towards my fireteam’s known location.

When I arrived at my squad’s current position, they were dealing with enemy contacts while our squad leader was down and bleeding heavily on the neck area. I made a quick request for the three men around to keep security in the area while I worked swiftly to bring our leader back up. I bandaged his head, pushed some saline and epinephrine through his arm, and he eventually managed to come back from almost being dead. 2nd Lt. RasaDeDam immediately took control of the situation and made necessary callouts, sending Cpl. Szopix and the blue team back west to flank around the buildings, while the rest of the red team stood behind to defend us while I finished healing our squad leader’s legs and head. Once that was done, R-Pfc. VergiRage walked up to me, wounded, while 2nd Lt. RasaDeDam and the rest of the red team pushed west. In order not to be too far behind, I only fixed his legs so we could catch up, promising to heal his chest wounds after we grouped up with the rest of charlie squad.

We started to move towards the Alpha marker on the map when we noticed some enemy stragglers, so most of the red team focused on shooting them and watching security while I finished healing the minor injuries on R-Pfc. VergiRage’s chest, all the while we all waited for the blue team to catch up to us. Some time after we all watched security, I got shot on both arms by enemies coming from the west, so Charlie shifted to shoot them while 2nd Lt. RasaDeDam treated my minor wounds. Once that was done with, I got my medkit back and Rct. Snieg95 crouched near the wall I was hiding at, and I started to patch him up.

After successfully dealing with all enemy contacts and regrouping with the blue team, we got back into our vehicles and continued our way south. Somehow, we were caught by surprise yet again by heavy enemy fire coming from the buildings, which ended up severely wounding both 2nd Lt. RasaDeDam, who was driving the vehicle, and me. Once I made sure our squad leader was stable and that I wasn’t bleeding either, I went to treat the third man in our vehicle, R-Pfc. VergiRage, who happened to be unconscious in his seat. I pulled him out of the vehicle and dragged him to cover before making sure he was combat capable. That’s when the blue team informed us they had someone who needed medical treatment and were told to retreat back to the bridge.

Rct. Snieg95 was seen dragging an unconscious teammate through the entire bridge. As R-Rct. Filozof was delivered to me, I proceeded to push some saline and epinephrine into his circulation so he would be back up while I treated his severe injuries. Once he was done being treated, Rct. Snieg95 also needed some quick treatment before I informed our squad leader that we were ready to group up with Cpt. Szopix past the bridge, now finally in RV Zulu. After meeting with him, we cleared some of the buildings together to finish the process faster, while 2nd Lt. RasaDeDam went back with a repairing tool to fix our damaged vehicle.

We kept watch around the area, mainly east where we were expecting contacts. But as someone from Charlie Squad went North to check for enemies, they got shot down in the open. After trying to kill the enemy contact, PFC. YourDoctor threw a smoke grenade to assist me while I ran in to carry the unconscious body closer to our location. It was a successful maneuver as he was easily treated and brought back up in a minute. After some time had passed, we got the order from our squad leader to go back and help him since he was under fire back on the bridge around our vehicle. I managed to kill two enemy contacts there, and that’s when a straggler from charlie squad approached us.

Alpha squad arrived on their vehicle as we were getting ready to move, while their medic got out to get their leg treated. After healing the injury and making sure we both had enough medical supplies to keep going, we went back to our respective vehicles. 2nd Lt. RasaDeDam informed us that we needed to go past Azhdar Lake and follow the Pech River until we reached Khandar, our main objective. However, if we were to find too many contacts, we would drive past it and dismount at a gas station near Pech Valley, a little after Khandar. That is exactly what happened, our vehicle was under heavy fire so we drove through the town and dismounted at the gas station.

After establishing that no one was allowed to throw explosives since we’ll be saving civilians, we made a line and went uphill. As we arrived at the southern part of the town, we cleared some buildings and fought off a few stragglers. As we thought the path we just crossed was clear, an enemy appeared behind and shot two of our men down in a second. PFC. YourDoctor was quickly able to notice where the contact was, and we killed him. Now running towards the unconscious soldier on the other side of the street, we worked together to make sure both Rct. Snieg95 and Cpl. Szopix were stable before he went to keep security, and I continued the medical treatment.

Once the order was delivered through radio, Cpl. Szopix led the blue team north, while I stood in the city with the red team, watching over the eastern side of Khandar. It didn’t take long before we got told that the blue team was under heavy fire, but somehow they managed to survive and retreat back to us. Once we grouped up, we continued our path uphill towards the east, where we found another building. That building had some enemy contacts, but Charlie squad dealt with them relatively quickly while making sure no explosives were used. The civilians were found, the helicopter arrived, and they were loaded safely into the air vehicle.
