Charlie Squad After Action Report

This operation’s objective was to retrieve civilians from enemy territory during night time. To get the plan started we needed to leave FOB “Freedom”, so Charlie squad, alongside Bravo, went into the helicopter that would serve not only to be our means of transportation but also to carry the civilians. The plan was to fly all the way west, reaching Karbala, then proceed north towards LZ “Night”, just east of Al Saqlawiyah Post. The flight went without any problematic encounters or contacts.

Upon landing we secured the area via pulling an AAD to protect the chopper as it took off, once it cleared the area we proceeded towards A&B WP 1, and that’s where Bravo had to split off from us. They would infiltrate the western side of AI-Anbarm while Charlie proceeded towards the east, where we found enemy contact patrolling the area. R-Pfc. VergiRage made quick work of that target as we now rushed towards the other side of the bridge to get to the next step of the plan.

We quickly reached the end of the bridge and changed directions, now going south so we could reach the second bridge. The plan was for half our squad, the one led by Cpl. Szopix, to watch one bridge while the other half, led by SFC. Bobi, would keep watch on the first bridge we crossed. Following instructions and observing the terrain, Cpl. Szopix decided we would divide ourselves on the opposite sides of the street to better keep ourselves hidden while making sure no enemies would pass by without us noticing. Rct. Raaaul kept an eye on the west, I stood behind some bushes in order to keep myself safe while watching the street, and R-Pfc. VergiRage observed the east where he managed to spot an enemy vehicle. We quickly opened fire once it got closer and managed to eliminate the contacts. Cpl. Szopix once again took the initiative of placing the enemy vehicle sideways on the middle of the bridge to further block enemy passage.

Once finishing that step of the plan, we were to group up with the rest of Charlie, so we moved in a column back north towards the gas station where we planned to meet earlier. Charlie quickly eliminated some contacts on the west side of the gas station and north while I ran towards PFC. YourDoctor, where I helped him treat one of our men that went unconscious. Upon making sure he would survive we got ready to move, however we were caught by surprise when enemies made themselves known after shooting the arm of our team leader. They were dealt with and I managed to give his arm the medical treatment it needed before proceeding with the plan.

Cpl. Szopix led the charge east, dividing the blue team in half and pushing with each half on each side of the street. An enemy machine gunner was found and we were forced to take cover while waiting for him to be dealt with. Once told to move, we continued to push, however the man countered all odds and got back up, shooting us and managing to wound Rct. Raaaul before being shot down for good. Upon noticing that our other medic was closer to the recruit, I continued my push East alongside Cpl. Szopix and R-Pfc. VergiRage. Enemy contacts further ahead opened fire towards us so we had to crouch and continue pushing closer using vehicles as cover.

While the entirety of Charlie squad was pushing forward, our squad leader got shot down, so I crawled over while still under fire to make sure he would be back up as soon as possible while Charlie provided cover fire and dealt with enemy contacts. Once back up, SFC. Bobi quickly got control of the situation and gave us the order we needed to continue with the plan, now moving closer and searching for the entrance to the first building where we would have to deal with enemies while searching for civilians. The entrance was eventually found further north, and after getting in we decided to clear the buildings while being careful on the trigger to avoid wounding civilians. Some members of Bravo squad were also inside, one even got caught by surprise by an enemy on the window and got shot down. Cpl. Szopix offered to keep security while I quickly treated R-Pfc. Ephialtes. Once he was back up, Pvt. Blind reached the area, dropping Rct. Raaaul unconscious next to me. Now together with Bravo’s medic, we quickly saved him by giving him some blood and epinephrine so he would be combat ready as quickly as possible. That’s when we got the order to go back to the entrance and keep watch while the pilot R-Cpl. Alex141 was coming with the helicopter to take the civilians to a safer area.

Now we needed to move to the second area, located in the center of Fallujah, where our job would be to prioritize retrieving the civilians while Bravo squad would deal with enemy contacts. On the path chosen to reach that destination, an enemy vehicle was found and was expertly dealt with by one of the AT Riflemen as we continued east, rushing to meet with the rest of Charlie squad as they informed they were under heavy fire. Upon grouping up, Charlie focused on dealing with the ones shooting near our location while I laid down to save R-Pfc. VergiRage who happened to get shot down during the encounter. Once making sure he was at least back up, I didn’t have to finish treating all his wounds before we moved, so I made sure he wasn’t bleeding before we rushed east. Cpl. Szopix took all the combat capable men to now go further north while I finished treating R-Pfc. VergiRage and Rct. Raaaul that unfortunately got wounded by some razor wire.

Charlie Squad continued to head south, we couldn’t find the entrance to the compound from the area we were in, so Cpl. Szopix offered to help the rest of the men to jump over the wall, now reaching the eastern side of the building. Then we began clearing the buildings, starting with a school. While going upstairs, our squad leader got shot down but both me and Pfc. YourDoctor were nearby so we provided him with quick medical treatment so he would be back up as soon as possible. When he was combat capable, Charlie had finished clearing the buildings so I moved towards the entrance alongside Rct. Raaaul to keep watch and make sure no enemy contacts would get inside. After some time passed, the rest of Charlie squad arrived at the entrance and started dealing with contacts on the west side while I kept cover behind a vehicle and treated a minor wound on our second medic. Not long after the enemies were dealt with, our pilot arrived and we loaded the civilians into the helicopter which left right after.

The next step of our plan required us to move southwest to reach the third location, south from Municipal Market. Once again there was a machine gunner down the road, so we threw a smoke and double timed to the other side, then waited a bit for the rest of Charlie to cross. We passed through some debris, and now headed straight east towards our next objective. After we got close to the compound, enemy contacts were found further north, which were dealt with until a BTR was found in the street. Everyone was forced to take cover until our AT Rifleman destroyed it. I happened to get shot in the chest by a contact we assumed was dead, but luckily for me PFC. YourDoctor was nearby and kept me alive until I woke up. I checked those down around me, but they were all dead aside from R-Pfc VergiRage, which we made sure was combat capable as soon as he woke up.

After treating everyone nearby, now alongside the other medic, we moved directly east towards our team leader’s known position. Our squad leader called for us the moment we got there because Pvt. Loshmi was unconscious next to the entrance of the compound. I successfully bandaged and started to treat a severe injury on his chest while PFC. YourDoctor gave him some saline. After he was combat capable, he rushed inside as we double checked that every enemy contact in the ground was fully dead.

We heard some enemies directly south as the loud gunfire was echoing in the entire place. I went back to the entrance to check on two of our men, but they were fine so I moved back inside where we got the order that all rooftops were clear. I headed to the last building alongside Cpl. Szopix and we managed to find the civilians hiding in one of the rooms on the second floor, so we moved them outside where they would load into the helicopter. As our squad leader was giving the pilot instructions on where exactly we were, I went around making sure every member of Charlie Squad had enough bandages and Morphine to continue the operation.

Once that objective was done with, Charlie squad regrouped outside the compound and headed north until we reached two streets and followed the road east, however some enemies were found further northeast down the road. Bravo squad, that was currently moving with us, focused on dealing with enemy contacts while we moved north to provide support to SFC. Bobi. However on the way there, we realized the streets weren’t as safe as we initially believed since both Pvt. Loshmi and I got shot down. Barely conscious, I heard our men heading further north while two men stood behind so I would know which way to go. When I got up, our team leader immediately noticed an enemy vehicle in the main road east and proceeded to shoot it after making sure there were no allies behind him.

As I ran to cover, I met PFC. YourDoctor treating Pvt. Loshmi, but he didn’t need assistance so I moved next to another soldier that was bleeding through every limb possible. Somehow, he managed to survive without passing out from lack of blood, so we closed his wounds so he would be combat capable before moving on with the operation. Heading north, we found the large building that would serve as our extraction site. Going upstairs, I found some men who needed quick treatment before continuing the path upwards. As we reached the rooftop, every soldier provided cover fire for the helicopter, reducing the number of enemy contacts close to the building before we got inside and managed to extract without any further damage thanks to our pilot, R-Cpl. Alex141. All the civilians were successfully rescued.
