October 1986.

For more than four decades, Europe has lived under the shadow of a war that never came. NATO and Warsaw Pact forces face each other across the Iron Curtain, maintaining thousands of troops, armored vehicles and aircraft in a constant state of readiness.

A major Warsaw Pact military exercise is currently underway inside Czechoslovakia. Officially, the troop movements are routine. NATO intelligence believes otherwise.

Reconnaissance reports indicate unusual concentrations of forces close to the West German border. Armored formations have moved forward, fuel and ammunition are being transferred toward staging areas, and military communications have increased sharply.

The fragile peace along the Iron Curtain has finally begun to collapse.

Following a series of covert operations and acts of sabotage along the West German–Czechoslovak border, both NATO and Warsaw Pact forces have been placed on maximum alert.

American forces achieved a narrow tactical victory during the initial special operations phase. However, the situation has escalated beyond isolated incidents.

Czechoslovak mechanized formations have moved toward the border, while American units have been ordered to secure key routes and defensive positions inside West Germany.

Both sides are now preparing for direct confrontation.

The era of covert operations is over.

The fighting spreads into Czechoslovakian Territory . Reinforcements arrive, mechanized infantry moves forward, armored vehicles fill the roads and helicopters operate above the forests. Both commands now seek a decisive breakthrough.
