Coop Protect the Convoy

February 1968: The Tet offensive. The Vietnam war has been growing with increasing ferocity, large numbers of NLF and US/ARVN troops have been killed in the fighting. 30 January 1968 was the start of the "Tet offensive" This saw a coordinated attack from the Vietnamese on more than 100 cities and outposts in south Vietnam. It was an attempt to make the people of South Vietnam rise up against their government. This also sought to create a divide between the south vietnamese and their American allies.

 

We start this mission in the DaKrong valley in Vietnam on the border of Laos as a part of the US 3rd Infantry Division, We are operating from a small FOB on the southern side of the valley with one of our larger bases 4km to the north. We have been given information that large movements of Vietcong have been spotted moving through Laos on their Ho Chi-Minh trail. As a result of this information and the danger it is causing to our FOB command has given us an order to move our 2 M107 self propelled guns from the FOB to the main base 4km up river. These artillery guns aren't cheap and we will need them in a more startegic position for if the NLF decide to attack, it is imperative that they make it to that base in one piece.

 

You will be transporting these Artillery Pieces by convoy following Highway 14. Also be aware The Vietcong divisions we have spotted might not be the only in the area. watch out for ambushes, traps and all kinds of things which are going to stop you from making it to that base. Civilians are not neccasarily Vietcong, so watch your fire.
