COOP Operation Brutal Bee

Mission was a qualified success.

1^st, 2^nd and 4^th MPLA Forces made fast work supporting the inhabitants of Kolaka in repelling UNITA terrorists, aided by armoured support. The 3^rd and 5^th MPLA Forces suffered losses and the destruction of at least one of their supporting T-34s in attempting to recapture tanks stolen by the enemy, but were reinforced and able to complete their task.

Cuban and Soviet elements completed additional tasks under their own initiative, and with the aid of Cuban helicopter transport, forces consolidated to strike at the UNITA command in Keras. Fighting was close and dirty, with significant losses to flanking elements, and heavy weapons brought to bear against an enemy well entrenched in a hardened structure.

In total, the combined forces lost 92 men, but were able to claim 157 enemies dead among 6 enemy vehicles completely destroyed, and the death of of UNITA leader Jonas Savimbi as something close to a pyrrhic victory.
