It's been 4 years since the Chernarussian Soviet Socialist Republic became the Republic of Chenarus, ending its long status as a client state of the soviets. Despite its peaceful independence, the newly formed Chernarus government has been facing an insurgency over the South Zagoria region. Its population is mostly formed by ethnic Russians, who in discontent with the nation's close approach to the west and with separatist demands, formed the Chernarussian Movement of the Red Star(ChDKZ). While initially a political movement, it turned into a powerful military organization. The Chernarus government initially made enough efforts to reorganize and counter some of the insurgents initial attacks.

During 1994, the government could not withstand the growing support of the separatist movement and its military power. The country's eastern region has fallen into control of the ChDKZ. Chernarus claims that Russia has been funding the resistance, while the former denies it. After Muhammad Aziz' coup in 1988, securing an allied nation closer to Takistan is a priority for the United States government. The request by Chernarus for an American intervention was granted. The 27th Marine Expeditionary Unit and the 75th Ranger Regiment were selected to take part in this small operation.
